Appreciating Roger Federer

This afternoon, Roger Federer won his 7th (yeah, that's a lot) Wimbledon and his 17th major overall. He also overtook the #1 ranking in the World for the first time in a long time. He is, without a doubt, the best player to ever step on a tennis court. He's a class act - on and off the court - and I've always been a huge fan.

I do however, have to also acknowledge what he managed to do today, for me. He beat Andy Murray, who was trying to become the first British man to win Wimbledon since Fred Perry did it in 1936. It's a big effin' deal, a big enough deal that I made one of my main characters in Game. Set. Match. Alex Russell accomplish it. (Yeah that's him to the right. Cute, no?)

So thanks, Fed, for keeping my novel accurate, at least for another year.

  1. He he! As a fellow Brit I hoped Murray would win but wasn't disappointed Fed did - he's such a great character. I love tennis, and your book sounds very interesting.

    1. Yeah, I couldn't have been TOO upset if Andy won and I'm sure he'll get one eventually. Thanks for checking out the blog!

  2. I love the fact that he won, only because it actually makes sense with the novel. I really wish that the book would be on stands already (as I suspect your news hints towards...), and then they make a movie. With Ayla Kell and Neil Jackson. Ah, if only!

    1. Sadly Neil is a little old to play Alex and Ayla would have to play Indy, so they wouldn't be able to use all that on-screen chemistry to their advantage!

  3. Congrats on not having an inaccurate novel! What all would you have had to revise had Andy won?

    1. It wouldn't have changed anything major other than some backstory, but in my mind it was important backstory for the character. So yeah, Andy Murray is allowed to win all the majors he wants, just not Wimbledon.
