Indiana Gaffney is about to kiss a boy...any guesses who it is?
He laughed, his green eyes sparkling at her, hypnotizing in their intensity. “You know my offer stands.”
“I’ll think about it,” she said, only half joking as she saw her dad and Caroline over his shoulder, making their way towards her. He turned to see what she was looking at.
“I should get going. Congratulations again,” he said, facing her. He hesitated for a moment before he stepped closer, pressing his lips against her cheek. Indy tried to fight the instinct to tilt her head ever so slightly and end this torturous game he insisted on playing. It was a losing battle. Just as he began to draw away she turned, letting her lips brush against the corner of his mouth.
Sparks, instantaneous electricity, snapped through her veins at the ghost of a touch.
He pulled back and stared at her wide-eyed, before blinking rapidly, mouth opening and closing, but not uttering a word. Then, after a few silent, tense moments, he smiled tightly at her, turned and left.Indy watched him go, pressing her fingers against her still tingling lips.
“You were wonderful, honey,” her dad said, when he and Caroline reached her, both either deliberately oblivious or actually unaware of what just occurred.
“Just fantastique,” Caroline added.
“Thanks,” Indy said to her step-mom and smiled at her dad, trying to focus on them, instead of the millions of what-ifs flying through her head.
